poem

I always loved this poem as a child:

Overheard on a Salmarsh
******************************
Nymph, nymph, what are your beads?

Green glass, goblin. Why do you stare at them?

Give them me.

No.

Give them me. Give them me.

No.

Then I will howl all night in the reeds. Lie in the mud and howl for them.

Goblin, why do you love them so?

They are better than stars or water,
Better than voices of winds that sing,
Better than any man's fair daughter,
Your green glass beads on a silver ring.

Hush, I stole them out of the moon.

Give me your beads. I desire them.

No.

I will howl in a deep lagoon for your green glass beads, I love them so. Give them me. Give them me.

No..

Summer's here

Not that you would know with the incessant rain and fog (hey it is NS) but I have hope that the sun will shine again :). So I need to dream up some great summer colour combinations. I'm loving the citrus right now : orange crush, sweet lime, sour lemon, plus black cherry/pomegranate and of course STRAWBERRY. Summer is all about the fruit it seems. Can't forget the aqua, turquoise and white, plus the brilliant greek blue. I would love to pair a chalky blue with a soft buttery yellow (a la provence) but its hard to find that perfect yellow--I know I don't have one in my stash, must keep looking on-line! In the meantime here are a few things I have in mind:

  • ocean reef beads (i've done these before, love them) for a themed charm bracelet.
  • bangles with a single focal bead
  • soldered brass/copper rings for necklace
  • stamped sterling rings with oh my god look at me now beads
  • asymmetric necklace with my glass flowers
  • make a photo studio to take better pictures (really its just setting up a space with tripod and backdrop plus a filter, I'll take pictures of the process...)

should keep me busy for a while! Oh and one more thing, look at this (why I need a photo set up):

Springtime yarn and glass button

A new handyed colourway in soft pinks and greens, plus a matching glass button. Both donated to WWKNIP (world wide knit in public) day as prizes.

Silver Band Rings

These pictures were taken in the last dying rays of the sun, they are much more vibrant in person! A simple silver band, stamped with a swirl design and assembled with a brass screw. Please don't mind the length of the screw on the purple ring--I have not cut it down to size yet.

Pale Grey and violet--Stunning! (every time I wear it I get asked to make more!)

Stamped swirl design

Fun colours of pink, blue, black and white

Spring!

Its been a while since I last posted, the plague descended on my house for the month of March conveniently coinciding with my return to work from maternity leave. Now its back to the business of melting glass! I have a few new things to show off...once the sunlight returns I will take a few photos of the ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS new rings I've made. Plus the box full of beads just waiting to be made into new jewelry...

**Note** Right now I'm thinking about having a sale in May (provided I get a chance to make a few things!), I will post more details in a few weeks.

Project Spectrum

I have a new special project to work on this year: Project Spectrum 2009!! hosted by Lollygirl.com. I just love the idea of working with a specific colour palette and really going outside of my blue/green purple comfort zone :)

This year the projects are based around the four cardinal directions and their associated colours, seasons, elements and natural materials. LOTS of ideas, and it should be very interesting to see what other group members make. I think I will try to do a little of everything: glass beads, jewelry, knitting, wool dyeing (but not for every season!!).

Here is the breakdown for the year:

NORTH (March/April)
Color: Green
Material: Stones/Gems/Rocks
Season: Winter
Element: Earth

EAST (May/June)
Color: Yellow
Material: Wood
Season: Spring
Element: Air

SOUTH (July/August)
Color: Red
Material: Metal
Season: Summer
Element: Fire

WEST (September/October)
Color: Blue
Material: Glass
Season: Autumn
Element: Water

* it should be interesting to see what I come up with for east (yellow) and south (red) since I usually don't wear or work with those colours..

Valentine's Day Hearts

I made these this week --all for earrings. The blue cubes are fantastic, there is an irridescent purple on top of the blue that looks amazing in sunlight, unfortunately I burned my hand rather severely (we're talking a large 2nd degree burn here) in the process. Wasn't paying attention to my hand placement and seared it (actually sear marks on my hand, yuck) on the 2500F torch. Um, yeah, so that was stupid of me. Sigh. at least it's getting better, but so sore!!!

Heart shaped earrings in pink, amethyst and strawberry:
