Project Spectrum

I have a new special project to work on this year: Project Spectrum 2009!! hosted by Lollygirl.com. I just love the idea of working with a specific colour palette and really going outside of my blue/green purple comfort zone :)

This year the projects are based around the four cardinal directions and their associated colours, seasons, elements and natural materials. LOTS of ideas, and it should be very interesting to see what other group members make. I think I will try to do a little of everything: glass beads, jewelry, knitting, wool dyeing (but not for every season!!).

Here is the breakdown for the year:

NORTH (March/April)
Color: Green
Material: Stones/Gems/Rocks
Season: Winter
Element: Earth

EAST (May/June)
Color: Yellow
Material: Wood
Season: Spring
Element: Air

SOUTH (July/August)
Color: Red
Material: Metal
Season: Summer
Element: Fire

WEST (September/October)
Color: Blue
Material: Glass
Season: Autumn
Element: Water

* it should be interesting to see what I come up with for east (yellow) and south (red) since I usually don't wear or work with those colours..

Valentine's Day Hearts

I made these this week --all for earrings. The blue cubes are fantastic, there is an irridescent purple on top of the blue that looks amazing in sunlight, unfortunately I burned my hand rather severely (we're talking a large 2nd degree burn here) in the process. Wasn't paying attention to my hand placement and seared it (actually sear marks on my hand, yuck) on the 2500F torch. Um, yeah, so that was stupid of me. Sigh. at least it's getting better, but so sore!!!

Heart shaped earrings in pink, amethyst and strawberry:
**all for sale, sterling wire and glass beads, $18/pair**

Arabian Nights

Lots of glass discs suspended on silver chain! Cobalt, violet, black, gold, turquoise with touches of fine silver. Currently in necklace form, but I think I may make it into a bracelet instead....

Dryad Necklace

Big chunky glass beads in grass green and topaz, rolled in reduction frit and encased in crystal clear. The shapes are reminiscent of oak leaves (hence the name dryad--a tree nymph in Greek mythology).
